Ok, so here’s the thing. The world is a scary place right now. Hell, it’s probably always been a scary place in one way or another. It just seems like there’s a lot floating around right now to worry about, to be afraid of, to try to second-guess your way around. We’re all doing it, just trying to find our way through the morass. Worries are nibbling away at our foundations, and anxiety is high because of course it is. Donald Trump could conceivably become President of the United States in less than a year, and he’s not even the worst candidate for that job. No wonder people want to tune out and listen to John Denver music for the next twelve months. But today’s wisdom is telling us not to surrender to our fears. Do something today. Do anything. Get moving. Let yourself approach old roads and pathways with new eyes because you might have been missing things all this time that will serve you well now if you’re able to start seeing them. Think: beginner’s mind. Think: tabula rasa. Think: starting over is a good thing. Nurture the fire in your heart, your own inner sun, and don’t give in to fear.
Ferocity in guarding your space and your boundaries is not only acceptable, it’s required. With such intense energy focusing inward these days, and let’s face it, we’re all focusing inward on getting our stuff done, moving our projects forward, or just plain trying to survive, sometimes intense defense needs to happen. When others come at you to either get your help or to dump their stuff on you (whether they mean to or not, and sometimes they really are just clueless and not proceeding from ill intent), finding a way to say, “No, thank you,” is critical. It depends on who it is, of course: if your boss dumps on you and you need the job, don’t tell her to go f*** herself. Do the job, do what you have to do to protect your inner resources, and practice not taking anything personally. If however it’s someone who tends to be an energy vampire, who comes at you with their boatloads of crap all the time, by all means practice your sacred and divine “NO.” Let yourself have your “NO.”
Ok, so, wow. The theme of today’s draw is grief, heartbreak, and disappointment, what’s yours and what comes from outside you, the pain and suffering that comes along in life whether you’re ready for it or not. It’s unavoidable because it’s life. What matters here is how you deal with it. There is no escaping it, so don’t even try. The thing to do is look at how you’re looking at it: do you see change and upheaval as negative, as something “the gods” are doing to you because they hate you? (Hint: They don’t. Why would They?) Today’s draw is about how to work with this energy as it appears in your life, to make positive change happen or at least to find ways to work with grief and despair so that you can learn from it and hopefully be better prepared the next time it comes around. When you experience inner turmoil, look for the source of it, not the symptoms. What’s the cause? On Sunday evening I did some journeywork to talk to my demons directly about my food addictions, and what I came away with after that conversation was that I eat and overeat because I’m desperately unhappy right now in my life and I need to do more to actively find happiness. I can’t just sit and wallow in despair. That’s not helpful to anybody, least of all me. So if you are experiencing inner pain, look at the root of it: don’t beat yourself up for having the addiction. What’s the addiction masking? And if you’re dealing with pain from outside, get away from it. Cut it off. Don’t drown your sorrows, and don’t accept misery that isn’t yours. Be fierce in establishing and holding boundaries, and be the absolute monarch of your domain. You are the ruler of the kingdom of you. You hold the keys to your castle. Start acting like it.
Today’s draw is about making whatever “home” is for you the best it can be. Reach out for your best ideas, do some cleaning up, clearing out, and throwing away, and get rid of whatever is old and untimely. Go for the new and energizing. Reach for something that is a little bit outside your comfort zone (but you don’t have to go too far unless you want to). Let yourself have those bright ideas, those flashes of inspiration that come when we need them. Be honest, though: honest about what you want, where you want to go, who you are and who you want to be. Where are your passions? What do you like to do? Are you feeling compelled to act or create based on other people’s wishes and desires? Be careful about that today. You are in a transformative space right now, and you want to make sure to be creating things that are for and about you, not for and about others who look to make you into what THEY want you to be. Know thyself, and BE THYSELF too. 🙂
